For the next two weeks, Lockwood Elementary and Middle School is conducting a DRIVE for Children's Haven in Joplin, MO. Children's Haven is a temporary shelter for children ages birth to seventeen. Our students and staff are excited to give back to the Joplin community, raise awareness, and help children in need! To make things more interesting, we are making it a contest between the grades! PreK-2nd grade will be collecting baby wipes, 3rd-5th grade will be collecting socks (new in the package), and 6th-8th grade will be collecting condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, ranch etc.). Collection bins are in front of the Elementary/MS office. We want to open this up to the Lockwood community as well. This is not mandatory but we appreciate all contributions. Thank you in advance for your donations!
Here is a little about Children's Haven and their purpose!
"Children's Haven has been providing safe, nurturing care since 2003 to area children, ages birth through seventeen, at no cost to families. Children's Haven provides temporary shelter to area children in a safe, secure environment while their parents resolve a family crisis. We are unique- being the only shelter in our area where kids can stay without a parent while parents retain custody. A family crisis may include but is not limited to homelessness, parent or sibling hospitalization, fear of child abuse or neglect, lack of food or utilities, parents seeking mental health or substance abuse treatment, or incarceration of a parent."
